The linear phosphazene salt [H2NPPh2NPPh2NH2]+Cl - (1) reacts with VCl4, WBr4, WF6, and ReCl5 to form the cyclometallaphosphazenes NPPh2NPPh2NVCl2 (4), NPPh2NPPh2NWBr3 (5), NPPh2NPPh2NWF3 (6), and NPPh2NPPh2NReCl4 (7), respectively. The cyclotungstaphosphazene NPPh2NPPh2NWCl3 (3) undergoes a metathetical halogen-exchange reaction with NaF or AgF to give 6 in high yield and purity. The stability of the transition metals in their high oxidation state in the phosphazene skeleton has been demonstrated. 19F, 31P, and 51V NMR spectroscopic investigations confirm the structures of the cyclometallaphosphazenes.
