2820-51-1 Usage

Description

Nicotine hydrochloride is a white crystalline solid that is combustible, although ignition may be difficult. It is toxic by inhalation (dust, etc.) and skin absorption, and produces toxic oxides of nitrogen during combustion.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Nicotine hydrochloride is used as a therapeutic agent for [application reason], such as aiding in smoking cessation or treating certain neurological disorders.
Used in Chemical Research:
Nicotine hydrochloride is used as a research compound for studying the effects of nicotine on the nervous system and its potential applications in various fields of medicine.
Used in Agricultural Industry:
Nicotine hydrochloride is used as a pesticide for [application reason], such as controlling insect pests due to its toxic properties.
Used in Analytical Chemistry:
Nicotine hydrochloride is used as a standard or reference material for the calibration of analytical instruments and methods, ensuring accurate measurements in various chemical and biological assays.

Air & Water Reactions

Soluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

The chloride salt of nicotine-An alkaloid produced from tobacco. Colorless, oily liquid, combustible, highly toxic. When heated to decomposition Nicotine hydrochloride emits very toxic fumes of carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen [Lewis, 3rd ed., 1993, p. 919].

Health Hazard

Highly toxic, may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.

Fire Hazard

Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways.

Safety Profile

Poison by intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cl-, NOx, and CO. See also NICOTINE.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 2820-51-1 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 2,8,2 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 2820-51:
(6*2)+(5*8)+(4*2)+(3*0)+(2*5)+(1*1)=71
71 % 10 = 1
So 2820-51-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
