PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent production method for 2-(1-benzothiophen-5-yl)ethanol. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for production of 2-(1-benzothiophen-5-yl)ethanol comprising esterifying (1-benzothiophen-5-yl)acetic acid, and performing the reductive reaction of the resultant ester using a boron hydride complex compound in the presence or absence of a metal halide.
